The event

Chianti in Musica has been taken place since 2006 in San Donato in Poggio, a wonderful medieval town between Florence and Siena. The masterclass lasts a week between the months of July and August.

Senza titolo1Each year the event comprises instrumental lessons and musical ensemble, musical aperitifs, concerts and recitals.

The Palazzo Malaspina – a late renaissance building that has been renovated and enhanced following significant restoration works carried out by the Municipality of Tarvarnelle Val di Pesa – hosts the instrumental lessons (except for piano lessons) and the secretarial office of Chianti in Musica, while students may carry out their private studies at the premises of San Donato in Poggio’s elementary school. Piano lessons are held at the Theatre of the Philharmonic Club, where concerts and recitals will also take place in case of bad weather.

Each evening towards 18.30, melodies from musical aperitifs and recitals of participants of the masterclass flood San Donato in Poggio. These free events are open to the general public and this year they will take place in the Romanesque church of Santa Maria della Neve, next to palazzo Malaspina, and are followed by the tasting of wines from local vineyards of Chianti.

The Orchestra of Chianti in Musica, conducted by Carlo De Martini and comprises of the participants of the masterclass, performs at the event’s closing concert.

This year Chianti in Musica celebrates its 15th anniversary.
